Drones in Wyoming
This website was created by the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security as a resource hub as well as a data collection hub.
Resources here can help you identify what you might be seeing. Generally, you may see drones being used locally for a wide range of applications - real estate photography, pipeline monitoring, forest health checks, crop dusting, near large wildland fires, near emergency scenes, and other uses.
Data collection includes sightings as well as planned flights.
If you witness a drone (or what you think is a drone) flying in a sensitive location, at unusual hours, doing unusual things, or near important locations (e.g. pipeline, power plant, water treatment facility, etc.), please let us know.
Most "civilian" drones are typically under 4 feet across and less than 44 pounds with the majority of "hobbyist" drones smaller, about 1 foot or so across. For more information, click here.

This silhouette image shows some of the more common types of civilian drone shapes with the largest being about 4 feet across from rotor tip to tip. Depending on the distance, wind, etc, they typically can be heard with a high pitched whine. They also typically have a motion similar to what is seen in the video below.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) regulates drone operations in Wyoming. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has the authority over all airspace in the United States, including airspace used by drones.
